Verdict
The Nexo Card is a Mastercard for people who already keep crypto with Nexo and live in the EEA or UK. It spends straight from your Nexo balance in two modes: Debit Mode, which spends your stablecoins, crypto, and Nexo’s own FiatX assets (EURx, USDx, GBPx); or Credit Mode, which borrows against your crypto so you don’t have to sell. If you live outside Europe, you cannot get this card at all.
The headline is up to 2% crypto cashback, no monthly, annual, or inactivity fees, and a virtual card that activates almost instantly once you hold $50. But it is custodial — your assets sit in your Nexo account under Nexo’s custody, and Nexo converts crypto to fiat when you pay. The 2% figure carries real conditions, and this is not a 0% card abroad.
Rewards — and the real conditions
The advertised 2% is a best case, not a default. To earn cashback at all you must spend in Credit Mode — Debit Mode purchases earn nothing — and hold an account balance above $5,000 in digital assets.
The rate then depends on your loyalty tier, and the top number is paid in NEXO Tokens:
- Platinum: 2% in NEXO Tokens, or 0.5% in BTC
- Gold: 1% in NEXO Tokens, or 0.3% in BTC
- Silver: 0.7% in NEXO Tokens, or 0.2% in BTC
- Base: 0.5% in NEXO Tokens, or 0.1% in BTC
So the honest read: 2% requires the top tier, Credit Mode, a $5,000+ balance, and taking the reward in Nexo’s own token. Choose Bitcoin instead and the ceiling drops to 0.5%. Cashback currency is switchable at any time. In Credit Mode you also keep earning interest on assets not used as collateral.
Fees
There are no monthly, annual, or inactivity card fees, and the virtual card is free — the $50 is your own funds, a funding minimum, not a charge.
The catch is spending abroad. This is not a 0% foreign-transaction card. FX fees are tiered by region and by weekday versus weekend:
- EEA/UK/CH: 0.2% on weekdays, 0.7% on weekends
- Rest of World: 2% on weekdays, 2.5% on weekends
Who holds your money
This is a custodial card. Your crypto sits in your Nexo account under Nexo’s “industry-grade custody,” the card draws on that platform balance, and Nexo performs the crypto-to-fiat conversion at the moment you pay. You are trusting Nexo with the funds — this is not a self-custody wallet card. The card itself is issued by DiPocket UAB for Nexo. You do get instant card freezes, spending controls, and biometric locks in the app.
Availability — who can actually get it
The Nexo Card is available only to citizens and residents of selected European countries, including the EEA and the UK. You must complete identity verification with a supported ID issued in the EEA, the UK, or another eligible European country. Apple Pay and Google Pay are both supported.
The virtual card activates almost instantly in-app once you hold $50; the physical card ships free but needs a balance above $5,000 and at least Gold tier. Nexo does not disclose how many virtual cards you can hold at once.
Who it is for
Get it if you are in the EEA or UK, already hold a sizeable balance on Nexo (ideally $5,000+ at a high loyalty tier), and want to spend crypto without selling while collecting cashback — accepting that the best rate is paid in NEXO Tokens and that Nexo holds your funds.
Skip it if you live outside Europe (you cannot get it), if you want self-custody, if you spend mostly in Debit Mode (no cashback), or if you expected fee-free spending abroad — outside the EEA/UK/CH the FX fee reaches 2%–2.5%.
