Verdict
Gnosis Pay is a self-custodial Visa debit card that spends stablecoins straight from a smart-contract wallet you own — no preloading, no handing your balance to a custodian. With no annual fee and no added FX markup, it suits crypto-native spenders in the UK, EEA, Switzerland and parts of Latin America who want to use on-chain balances like a normal card while keeping custody.
The headline “up to 5% cashback” is real but heavily gated. The base rate only reaches 4% if you hold 100 GNO in your card’s Safe, and the extra 1% needs an OG NFT. Rewards pay weekly in GNO, not cash, and only up to a weekly spend cap. If you will not hold GNO, treat this as a no-fee debit card with a modest cashback tier — not a 5% card.
Rewards: up to 5%, but only at the top of a GNO ladder
The current “Intermediary” cashback programme runs until 30 September 2026, after which partner-led programmes replace it. The base rate is tiered by how much GNO you hold in your Gnosis Pay Card Safe, measured at your lowest weekly balance: 0.1 GNO earns 1%, 1 GNO earns 2%, 10 GNO earns 3%, and 100 GNO earns the 4% base. An OG NFT (holding at least 0.1 GNO) adds +1%, for up to 5% total.
Two more catches. Cashback only applies up to a weekly spend cap that scales with your tier — $250, $375, $500 or $1,250 — with no rollover, resetting 00:00 UTC Sunday. And many categories are excluded, including ATM withdrawals, money transfers, top-ups, taxes, utilities and self-payments. Rewards arrive weekly in GNO in your Safe, which you can hold, swap or transfer.
Fees: genuinely low
- Ordering the card is free with free shipping, and there is no annual or recurring card fee.
- No purchase or transaction fees; spending is 1:1, so a €10 purchase deducts 10 EURe.
- No added FX fee — Visa’s exchange rate is applied automatically at the time of purchase.
- A replacement card for a lost or stolen card costs 4.99 EURe/GBPe/USDCe.
- ATM withdrawals are free up to 5 withdrawals or 200/month, whichever comes first, then 2%.
Custody and funding: you hold the money
This is the real differentiator. Funds sit in a self-custodial Safe smart-contract wallet on Gnosis Chain that only you control through your signing wallet; it is not an e-money account and is not issued by the card’s issuer. Stablecoins are deducted 1:1 at the moment you spend, so nothing is preloaded into a custodial account.
The trade-off is operational. The Safe holds only EURe, GBPe and USDCe on Gnosis Chain; assets on Ethereum or other networks must be bridged or swapped first, and sending unsupported tokens to the Safe can cause permanent loss. In supported regions you can also fund via a personal IBAN through Monerium. The card itself is issued by Monavate (UAB Monavate in the EEA; Monavate Limited, FCA-regulated, in the UK), with Gnosis Pay as programme manager.
Availability: who can actually get it
Gnosis Pay is live for legal residents aged 18+ (with KYC) of 38 supported countries across Europe and Latin America — including the UK, most of the EEA, Switzerland, and Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia, Colombia and Mexico. Apple Pay and Google Pay work for cards issued in the EEA, Switzerland, Gibraltar, the UK and Brazil. The United States is not available — it sits on the “Coming Soon” waitlist.
Who it is for
Get it if you live in a supported country, want to keep self-custody of your balance, and either hold GNO for the higher cashback tiers or just want a no-annual-fee, no-FX-markup Visa for spending stablecoins. The self-custodial model and the absence of preloading are the standout reasons to pick it.
Skip it if you are in the US or another “Coming Soon” market, do not want to hold GNO or manage a Gnosis Chain wallet, or expect cash-style rewards — cashback comes only in GNO, above a weekly cap, with many categories excluded.
